Explanation

The most extensively studied active transport systems use ATP (adenosine triphosphate) as the energy source. A well-known example is the sodium-potassium pump (Na⁺/K⁺-ATPase), which uses ATP to pump sodium ions out of and potassium ions into the cell against their concentration gradients.
