Explanation

The many double membranes found in plastids are called lamellae. These membranes form the structural framework within the plastid. In chloroplasts, the lamellae form the thylakoids that stack into grana. The grana lamellae are within the stacks, while stroma lamellae connect the separate grana stacks.
