Newton's Laws of Motion: Self-Test

An object at rest tends to stay at 1($) and an object in motion tends to stay in 2($) in a 3($) line at a constant 4($)

Three newtons are exerted northward on a 10-kg object while 4 newtons are exerted southward.  What is the acceleration of the object?

1. Acceleration = 1($) m/s²
2. Direction = 2($)

weigh = 1($) N

Explain why a heavier object does not fall faster when dropped since the accelerating force (its weight) is greater.

Explanation:

its mass is greater by just the _______ as its weight.  Thus, an application of Newton's second law (F = ma) results in the same acceleration

The acceleration of gravity is 9.8 m/s² downward.  In actual practice, does an object continue to accelerate if dropped from a tall building?

You have tied a shoe to a rope and are whirling it above your head. The following are the forces on the shoe.  State the direction of each force

1. Gravity 1($)
2. String 2($)
3. Air friction 3($)

For every force object X exerts on Y, Y exerts an equal and 1($) force on 2($)

My weight is the result of the earth's gravitational force on my body.  The corresponding reaction force is my body's gravitational force on the earth.
